Join us for this Wine Dinner with Imagery wines. Four courses paired with four wines.

Imagery is about creativity and pushing the artistic envelope.  When the Benziger’s first started their winery in 1981 they found unique grapes from areas throughout the state.  Some of these grapes were so different and rare that they felt they needed a program all their own, and that is how Imagery was started.  The Imagery wines were stand-outs; bold, luscious, and exotic, not your usual varietals.  It is with this early mindset that Joe & Jamie created the new CALIFORNIA tier Imagery wines.  It wasn’t good enough for these wines to be just high quality they needed to be different; like the original wines they needed to have a twist to them. That is why we spend time emphasizing the second varietal in the blend. Jamie and Joe think of it as the “enhancer” and you can see right away how it brings the wines to life. This “Imagery twist” is the not-so-secret weapon for Imagery.  Each of the varietals in the line has a small portion of an unusual grape that enhances the overall blend.  The SB has some muscat which elevates the aromatics. The chardonnay has chenin blanc, which provides mouthfeel and aromatics. The pinot noir has a small amount of petit verdot in the blend that opens up an extra layer of complexity. The cabernet sauvignon has petite sirah, which enhances the velvety mouthfeel.  These twist varietals aren’t grown as prevalently as more mainstream grapes and so we have searched all over the state to find what we need to craft Imagery. This one of the main reasons why the wines are designated with a California appellation.

 

Imagery has always been a coalescence of art and wine. The first Imagery wines were paired with labels from original works commissioned from contemporary artists. The label would change with each vintage.  A Parthenon image is included in every Imagery label and ties the Imagery story back to its origins at Benziger where a Parthenon replica overlooks the vineyard. Like the artist that has to channel their creative process to make a one-of-a-kind work of art so too does Jamie & Joe use their winemaking expertise to channel their creativity into the Imagery wines.  Together they broaden Your Palate!
